About Clinical Trials

Clinical trials are research studies that test new treatments, procedures or therapies in humans to determine their safety, efficacy and potential side effects. These trials are crucial in advancing medical knowledge and developing new treatments for diseases and conditions. 

There are four different phases of clinical trials.

• Phase I - New drugs are tested the first time in a small group of people. A safe dosage range is evaluated and side effects are identified.
• Phase II - Treatments found to be safe in phase I but are tested in a larger group of human subjects. Adverse effects are monitored for.
• Phase III - Treatments are tested on even larger populations which span different regions and countries. This is often the step right before a new treatment is approved.
• Phase IV - The treatment has been approved, however there is a need for further testing.
